Treatment and reuse scope
A defined treatment capacity and planned uses for the reclaimed water, supported by the technical design.

Representative landscapeWater stewardship
Developing a local non-drinking water resource through modular sewage treatment and reclamation.

THE CHALLENGE
Untreated sewage places pressure on Chennai's water bodies and nearby ecosystems. At the same time, landscapes and communities need water for uses that do not require drinking-water quality. The project connects those two needs through treatment and planned reuse.
THE APPROACH
The project is designed to rehabilitate treatment infrastructure and establish a modular sewage reclamation system. Treatment and polishing are combined with plans for suitable non-drinking applications, including irrigation. The intended use determines the water-quality requirements and operating arrangements.
SIV’S ROLE
SIV Impact brings together project development, implementation oversight, technical partners and coordination with relevant public agencies. The work includes defining the treatment and reuse scope, aligning delivery responsibilities and establishing how the system will be operated and monitored.
INTENDED VALUE
The intended value is to reduce untreated sewage entering the local environment and make treated water available for appropriate non-drinking needs. Reliable operation and a practical route for reuse are central to that goal.
PROJECT SCOPE
A defined treatment capacity and planned uses for the reclaimed water, supported by the technical design.
Treatment infrastructure delivery with technical and local partners, alongside site and public-agency coordination.
Responsibilities for ongoing operation, maintenance, flow recording and water-quality testing.
PROJECT GOALS
Design treatment capacity
Water reclamation goal
Irrigation and community applications
Performance reporting will distinguish design capacity from actual treated and reused volumes. Flow records and water-quality testing will establish how the system performs against its intended uses. The figures shown here are project goals; measured outcomes will be reported separately.
These highlights describe project goals, design capacity and planned scope. They are not measured results.
